Recent Lustmord Activities

Was just about to get up to date with Lustmord releases and just discovered he had some gigs in Europe last month. Anyone out there who attended an event?

Anyhow... I ceased to pursue the realtime research of Lustmord releases when he started to collaborate with the Melvins and was rather disappointed by the Juggernaut live album.

Discovered that I missed the Carbon/Core album, which aparrently was a sound track for this site (though the audio quality is awkward).

Now with 'Other' and all that remix stuff I have trouble getting back on track. So I wanted to ask you, the benevolent user of this forum, for your opinion: Is there a 'must be' release a dark ambient radio station can't avoid to have in the playlist?

I like the "Rising" from Lustmord...............

Is it like the other live album Juggernaut?

My english is so bad...........

klingt vielversprechend...

Lustmord made a Tool remix from Schism that is one favorite remixes. This is quite rare.

Schism DVD single
"Schism" (Lustmord remix) ? 20:13

It was on youtube but seems to be removed. It can be found here

though it's old and not ambient Sad

At some point I quit listening to Brian?s more recent output as it started to sound all the same. There?s some great textural stuff in his work, but at the same time he?s really great at creating off-the-wall stuff which is absolutely hideous to listen to, especially when it comes to actually "playing" some pitched stuff.

Agree - quality over quantity. If you look at the [Other] album - there's [Other], [Other Dub], [Beyond] (remixes of other), [The Dark Places Of The Earth] (remixes of other). Why that many remixes/reworks? If they are better than the original - why not only release the remakes, if they aren't better, why release them at all?

Heresy was surely a milestone. Remember it was released 1990(!) - that's 20 years ago...
But also Lustmord is a bit overrated in my opinion, especially when you consider releases like Metavoid.
Lustmord releases I like (from those I know):
Heresy
Carbon/Core
Purifying Fire

Doomcore
I also agree that Lustmord is a bit overrated. I like Heresy most....and the album with Robert Rich is also great.

It?s the usual dilemma: Acquire a reputation for something, and once you?re stuck with it, you can?t (and won?t) change it because it?s more convenient this way. This of course goes to warrant some regular income but artistically it?s not going anywhere anymore. The death knell for creativity, invention, and progress.

I think it will the best for someone's reputation to continue developing the thing that he basically established and discovered. Not just stay where he was 20 years ago.

However "The Primordial Atom" is one of the most important tracks in my life Grin

"The place where the black stars hang" would be my personal fave.

I was rather underwhelmed by it. This is the type of Dark Ambient I find just boring to tears...

Might be...it is just I am not into this kind of music for very long. It was more FSOL, Autechre (at least their older ones are sorta ambient) etc. So for me it?s still interesting.

Don't let your enthusiasm be spoiled! He probably despises 90% of all music played here. Smile

"Despise" is such a strong word. I just don?t like things that are done just for the sake of it.

I want to hear musicianship and wit when it comes to sound design. That?s all. And after listening to "Apollo" by Brian Eno, "Dreamtime Return" and "Magnificent Void" by Steve Roach, "Uranography" and "Nachtmusik" by Lightwave, "Below Zero" by Robert Rich, and "Planetary Unfolding" by Michael Stearns, this somewhat spoilt my perception of "ambient" and "interesting" quite a bit.

Sure, but maybe consider feeling a bit sympathetic to those who enter the field. ... ok, I guess Brian Lustmord performing at a satanist convention is not really someone entering 'the field'. It seems more like a clich?. Well...

But that 'after'...

For me, I just feel that mankind has overcome absolutism and that it was a good thing. Wink

And yes, I am still reading Rober Musil's "The Man Without Qualities", a intellectual history of the 20th century. Rumored that after you have read it, you never will want to read another novel, even taken into account that it's a ruin. And that's why I prolong it as far as I can.

Anyway... this winter solstice also brings a full moon and lunar eclipse, you know?! Great Cthulhu may awake! ?oOo0?..?

(Dont wonder... I have just been thrown out of my music club in the middle of a very strange discussion....)

(And no, I didn't misbehave, staff just wanted to knock off!)

You don't have to excuse for your taste of music, especially regarding a genre such as (dark) ambient and regarding music in general. I had this similar talk about the types of ambient, sound and sound sources few weeks ago. The same way Stephen likes and is part of the Berlin School ambient, with their specific sound and vintage gear and finds this the ultimate type of ambient, you have to right to like Lustmord or any other project that satisfies your aesthetical understanding and needs.

For me the quoted albums don't bring anything because I don't like that kind of sound, I like the sounds in ambient music to be unrecognizable and not to make me think of a synthesizers from before the times before Christ or of soundtracks of 70s sci-fi movies. I like dirty, rotten and sound as natural as possible. But this doesn't make me despise anything different from my taste and certainly doesn't make me excuse for what I like.

So let us not use words as despise, hate etc. we all have musical culture and deep knowledge of what has happened and is happening to music. We are all familiar with all the generic crap that is everywhere nowadays. Music and arts in general are really depersonalized because of the easy access to them, but still we should not separate and ignore any type in order not to restrain ourselves from anything. And certainly we should not separate in such small collectives especially so fruitful as the one here.

Sorry for the disruption. My power grid provider installed a smart meter.

Das liegt daran, dass ich überhaupt nur ganz wenige "Bands" im Programm habe. Wink

Ich bin nun regelmäßig hier auf dem Sender. Einige Bands werden gar nicht gespielt. Schade !!!
