As you might have noticed Thomas and me are currently testing a new streaming server. Apart from the nasty clipping problems (which Thomas will have fixed soon I'm sure) I'd like you to report any problems regarding the stream.
I'm mainly interested in possible connectivity problems but hope there won't occur any.
The stream is currently running at 160kbps and is now open for 100 simultaneous listeners, however there's still enough headroom for a higher quality and even more listeners.
If you'd like to see some statistics, go to
http://www.falsemirror.de:8000
Sometimes other streams running on my server will appear there as well. I'm also considering providing additional streams if there's any demand - maybe live-streaming some concerts/events?

Will test it tonight and we had this idea once to have for example on monthly basis live stream shows (just like the one Phelios did for Neurobeat back in the days) but the idea was just mentioned and not developed maybe with your help now we can do more. |

I think that's a fantastic idea! Technically it's not much effort. You just need to install an ice client http://www.icecast.org/3rdparty.php and connect to my server. I guess we should start a new thread for that topic if there's enough interest...

This idea has been developed by myself recently. Please expect a very solid announcement soon! |

You both made me extra happy just before going to bed! Looking forward to seeing what will come up of all this!!! Great!!! All of this that is happening around this community is one of the most worthy and fruitful things I've experienced in my life. |

SAM ran fine this night and Tobias' Icecast server worked well, too. So I can go on my trip with a good consciousness.
But if the streams should go offline despite the good signs, don't expect to see it online so soon. Maybe Tobias can run a little playlist on the mp3 stream, should it happen?! |

We will hijack the station while you are away. Expect it to be a Italopop radio when you get back! |

I will now perform a little test:
I will disconnect the server for a couple of milliseconds and hope Thomas' streaming client is able to reconnect automatically.
Most possibly your listening clients will disconnect.
The test starts at exactly 18:30 CET.

Back again...
Anyone experienced problems with the mp3 stream?
If not, I would proceed and declare it as the primary stream an cut the mediacast server in a while... |

And the experiment just failed . Despite having a flatrate for theoretical infinite traffic, my provider just sent me an e-mail telling me that a soft limit has reached and every additional GB will be calculated with 0.19?. Hell - we hadn't even been at 10GB/day with the DAR stream. The provider speaks of 'fair use' of the traffic and says that at for example 50GB/day (we were far from that!) a soft limit will be reached and they might lower the bandwidth.
I will clarify that with the provider, but as far as I see it, the experiment dar@falsemirror.de failed :/
I'm really sorry for this as I was quite sure, the streaming and its traffic wouldn't be any problem for the provider...
Cheers
Tobias
PS: I'd offered Thomas my help if he still wants to switch to another server (with REAL traffic flatrate).

Btw: The terms of business also said nothing about the 19Cent/GB, but said they might lower the bandwidth instead - just written an e-mail to the provider to clear that...

Update: Already received a reply from my provider, it's apparently a mistake that happened in the traffic check mechanism - so not all is lost.
They also offered me an upgrade for the traffic if necessary.

(However I will still leave the streaming server offline until everything is cleared...)
