Aspectee seems to refer to a paradox: Is it someone who is subject to the constant alignment of the angle he has to an object? Like the beholder becomes the 'beholded' (sic!). Is there a form of reverse perception? I can only guess what kind of kafkaesque reification context has lead to this project name. But maybe it's just a weird (helgeesque) kind of humor. The latter assumption may seem right, if you know the name of the previous project the artist was involved (Evoke Scurvee) and that he is a big fan of German comendian Helge Schneider.
Nonetheless a high level of tension exists in all tracks between melodic pad sounds that seem to serve the only purpose to seduce the listener just enough to have her drawn through all the grinding noises that drill into the mind deeply. And that's what makes the difference between pleasing light ambient music, which only wants to tranquilize you, and dark ambient that's willing to mess around with your mind badly -- in similar ways Helge Schneider does, not using music, but jokes. The destruction of the punch line as the ultimate goal of artistic expression is the aspect Helge and Aspectee share. The elements, skillfully arranged in each track, stay separated until the end, as irreconcilable antagonisms. Another reviewer stated that the album is not straight enough. But this is a misconception. It's very straight, though it may make you feel uneasy. Only the last track 'unwic' offers some salvation. Forgivable, if one keeps in mind that this is still a product that has to follow some rules.
If you are the type that enjoys to think, feel, and exist in contradictions: give the debut Morben a try! I'm still not through with this album -- just enough to write a review. Maybe once again, as with Evoke Scurvee, the artist is way ahead of the Zeitgeist. But this time he cared to get a label.
Thanks for the review, it?s very interesting to see how different coherences of the listeners are. There are only small bridges between Helge and aspectee ( sculpturee ).
Really? Oh... Nevermind, if think it's a nice analogy though. The duality of Aspectee's noise samples and harmonic elements and the decision to abstain from resolving the tension is really a very distinctive criteria of the project -- quite like Helge who likes to simply 'forget' the payoff of a joke, leaving the audience in a state of uncertainty (actually many people feel repulsed at this point, but some do enjoy it).
Is Sculpturee your next project or did you try to explain the intended meaning of Aspectee? Do you want to disclose some details about how the project evolved? I go the feeling that you wanted to elaborate on a few certain Evoke Scurvee tracks -- or aspects -- and evolve the style. Is that how you have choosen the project name? The 'ee' ending refers to a passive, submissive, or object-like mode of a subject... A bit confusing -- but that would only be consistent, of course...
I have to answer some time:-). Sculpturee refers to the sculpture in a very good film of Mr. Helge Schneider. I have tagged on only on one ee. The sculpture is a centre in the film and I would even say the decisive point (in the most true sense of the word) with a serious as well as sad background.
On the name evoke scurvee a certain Niklas W. a saxophonist from HH came at the past with evoke scurvee guest musicians was. We (Michael F. and Oliver P.) if the name has liked, he had something special. The reason Dark Ambient music to play, was due that we something else wanted to make. For years we made Electronic body Music what bored us finally. A big inspiration was the album Dissolved sampler what by great atmosph?re and also technically inspired us. Importantly was to be played in for us all songs live and not to work only on the computer, we could work fast and very creatively. We called our music music for the moment because we both (sometimes 3 or 4) did not know in which direction the song would go. The result was unbelievable for us and not to reproduce. Comparably with a Jam session where themselves musicians completely drop. Certainly many preparations were made technically see sound choice, but the arrangement and the structure surprised us over and over again.
With aspectee I continue the "idea" and Philosphie and also contain ee in the name of. To play in the songs live, besides, is very important to get a feeling for this music and to be innovative creatively. In future I will work together again with guest musicians. Surprises always feel well and the salt in the soup. You will see...
