Thank you, Thomas, you nailed it! I agree, my contribution was radically different from what?s usually called "DA", and for a second I actually thought about submitting something that was a lot closer to "DA" by textbook standards. I decided to be more adventureous and opted for what seemed least "comfy" to me.
If I were into making music for its own sake, that would be quite pathetic (and the outcome would only be pathetically superficial). Anybody who assumes I was making music just for the sake of being included on an album (or being acclaimed "best whatever of the year" ) exhibits a dire lack of knowledge about me, my person, and my motivation.
Yes, there is in fact a doombient slot on myspace but since I don?t care too much for this type of internet thing I haven?t filled it with contents yet ("doombient" has found its entry as a genre in Germany?s GEMA definitions as well). Some of you may have noticed that parsick.com leads you straight to the iapetus mail order shop as this is all the info and promotion I deem necessary at the moment.

Though I still think that releasing music on a CD demands caution and Vol.2 is far from being predictable and boring -- even if it meets textbook standards. Vol.2 has just the right balance in my ears. |

Doch die K?nstler durften selbst abstimmen, welcher der ins Rennen geschickten Songs es auf die Compilation schafft. Dieses Voting er?ffnet eine Sichtweise auf diese Musik, die sich noch einmal von der der reinen Konsumenten unterscheiden k?nnte. Nat?rlich sind die K?nstler auch H?rer, aber eben in erster Linie Musiker.
"Dark Ambient Radio Vol. 2" ist trotzdem oder (je nachdem, wie man es sieht) leider nicht zu einem Experimentierfeld der Musiker geworden. Vielmehr wurden aus 33 Tracks die besten 11 ausgew?hlt, was aufgrund des Votings zwar einerseits wenig Ausrei?er verspricht, daf?r aber einen hohen Standard setzt. Er?ffnet wird Volume 2 vom Leipziger Ein-Mann-Projekt Tholen, das mit Ch?ren, Streichern und tiefen B?ssen eine Mischung aus tiefer Melancholie und Unbehagen erzeugt. Inner Vision Laboratory aus Polen bietet die perfekte Fortsetzung, nur das industrielle Kl?nge einen etwas harscheren Sound erzeugen. Mit Architektur Noir geht die Reise nach Bulgarien und hin zu mehr Hall und Trostlosigkeit. Hier erhellen nur noch einzelne melodische T?ne die Dunkelheit. Auf die verzichtet der Norweger H?rleif Lang?s, der von Projekt Northaunt bekannt sein d?rfte, mit THERRADAEMON dann v?llig. Ganz im Gegensatz dazu erscheint das ruhige "Poudure" von Aspectee aus Kiel fast schon chillig. Mit Paukenschl?gen meldet sich Phelios zu Wort und mit dem bekannten Wuppertaler Projekt wird es erstmals rhythmisch in der Dunkelkammer. Aus dem sonnigen S?damerika, genauer aus Argentinien, stammt Angel Jose Lozano von CrepusculaR, der mit Grillenzirpen und Drones ein Vakuum erzeugt.
Das Projekt Nagual Art des Freiburger K?nstlers Andreas Kantner (Volador) verbindet d?stere Drones und maschinelles Krachen. Bei Gefallen kann man sich ?brigens s?mtliche Alben von Nagual Art kostenlos als MP3-Dateien herunterladen. Von alten Bekannten wie den Bremern Troum erwartet man immer etwas Besonderes. "Pina" erweckt den Eindruck von Atemger?uschen oder vorbei fahrenden Z?gen. Das klingt wie erwartet etwas verschroben und man glaubt, Stimmen und Akkordeon herauszuh?ren. Ganz so b?se wie der Titel "Succubi" vermuten l?sst, ist der Song des kroatischen Projekts Phobos zwar nicht, klingt aber trotzdem noch sch?n d?ster. False Mirror aus Ulm entl?sst uns mit leicht unbehaglichen T?nen und unverst?ndlichen Sprachsamples ins Zwielicht.
"Dark Ambient Radio Vol. 2" ist eine erstklassige Ver?ffentlichung, um die man als Liebhaber der d?steren Kl?nge nicht herum kommt. Vielleicht wird die bestimmt folgende Nummer 3 dann etwas experimentierfreudiger, damit gerade die eingefleischten Fans etwas Unerwartetes geboten bekommen.

The community "Dark Ambient Radio" that was created by Thomas Mielke, brought together the artists and the consumers of gloomy ambient sounds. Admittedly this kind of music doesnt appeal to the mainstream audience and the number of releasing projects is not that numerous. So generally they know each other. It is even more great that this community released a sampler in 2008 that united known and unknown artists. This sampler has now a sequel that contains a little special feature. Like in Part 1 the artists provided exlusive tracks, but this time the artists had the possibility to vote which of the songs make it on the compilation. This voting reveals a point of view to the music that differs from that of the consumers. Of course the artists are consumers too, but primarly they are musicians.
"Dark Ambient Radio Vol. 2" though is (unfortunally - depends on your view) not a field of experimentation for the musicians. 11 of 33 tracks were selected, this doesn't promise something extravagant, but sets a high standard. The compilation is opened by the Leipziger one-man-project Tholen that creates a mix between deep melancholy and discomfort with choirs, strings and deep bass. Inner Vision Laboratory from Poland provides a perfect continuation, only that industrial sounds create a more harsh sound. With Architektur Noir the travel goes to Bulgaria and to more reverb and bleackness. Here only some single melodic sounds brighten the darkness. And those are missing completely in the track of the norwegian H?rleif Lang?s' THERRADAEMON, who is known by the project Northaunt. Unlike that the calm "Poudure" of Aspectee from Kiel turns out pretty chilling. Phelios demands the stage with drum beats, and with this wellknown Wuppertaler project it gets rhythmic for the first time in the darkroom.
From the sunny South-America, to be more exact from Argentina, comes Angel Jose Lozano of CrepusculaR, who creates a vacuum with cricket chirping and drones.
The projekt Nagual Art of the Freiburger artist Andreas Kantner (Volador) combines gloomy drones and mechanic noises. If you like it, you can download all of his albums for free. We always expect something special from old friends like the Bremer of Troum. "Pina" creates an impression of breathing sounds and passing trains. This expectedly sounds kind of cranky and you think you can hear voices and an accordion. Further, the song "Succubi" by the croatian project Phobos is not so evil as trhe title suggests, but its still very dark. False Mirror from Ulm releases us with unidentifiable speech samples into the twilight.
"Dark Ambient Radio Vol. 2" is a first class release that you shouldn't miss as enthusiast. Maybe the number 3 will be a bit more experimental, for providing something unexpected especially to the dedicated fans.

Das Dark Ambient Radio hat sich - wie der Name schon verr?t einem bestimmten Genre der elektronischen Musik verschrieben. Das ist nicht etwa langweilig, wie man meinen k?nnte, sondern recht abwechslungsreich. Das haben die Macher der Compilation schon bei Teil 1 bewiesen und Teil 2 steht dem ebenfalls in nichts nach. Und man hat sich sogar opitisch verbessert, war doch die Gestaltung des Booklets der einzige aber st?ndig wiederkehrende Kritikpunkt der Rezensenten.
THOLEN starten die Scheibe mit sehr d?steren, langsam flie?enden Kl?ngen, die teilweise regelrecht Furcht einfl??end sind. Manchmal kommt man sich vor, als h?rte man ein Monster unter der Wasseroberfl?che, doch die sonnigen Passagen mildern diesen Eindruck. Der ?bergang zum St?ck von INNER SHRINE LABORATORY vollzieht sich kaum merklich, so ?hnlich im Ansatz ist das Ganze, wenn auch noch ein St?ckchen langsamer. Die Glockendrones und ein mehr an Bewegung werden beim genaueren Hinh?ren deutlich. In Erinnerung bleibt das St?ck vor allem durch den opernhaften weiblichen Gesang am Ende.
ARKHITEKTUR NOIRS Werk klingt sehr okkult, die Eingangssequenz wirkt wie auf H?rnern gespielt - so wie man das vielleicht aus dem Herrn der Ringe kennt. Dann ?bernehmen Chordrones und seltsame Ger?usche, wie von Tieren, sind zu h?ren.
THERRADAEMON zeigen sich ebenfalls recht d?ster-verst?rend mit verschiedenen divergenten Drones - auch hier muss man sofort an Wasser denken, die "Geisterstimmen" tragen ihren Teil zur unheimlichen Atmosph?re bei. Das ASPECTEE-St?ck gibt sich eingangs wesentlich noisiger und wirrer, wird dann aber von lichten Drones dominiert. Zahlreiche atmosph?rische Einsprengsel und viel Hall sorgen hier f?r Tiefenwirkung.
Der martialische Beitrag von PHELIOS mit seinen wundersch?nen rituellen Trommeln ist mein absoluter Favorit auf dieser Platte. Das mag sicher daran liegen, dass "Cloud Sector Alpha" fast schon eine echte Liedstruktur hat. CREPUSCULAR geben sich danach wieder etwas "tierischer". Zum Grillenzirpen gesellen sich sehr dunkle Drones, die langsam etwas lauter werden. Auch hier ist ein eigent?mliches Schmatzen und Kratzen zu vernehmen, die Stimmung ist eher recht statischer Natur.
NAGUAL ART steuern ein eher unauff?lliges St?ck bei mit einem hellen, pfeifenden Drone, kombiniert mit einer finsteren Atmosph?re und seltsamen melancholischen Melodiefragmenten. TROUM pr?sentieren sich mit einem sehr reduzierten Sound, der teilweise extrem leise ist. Die dunklen Drones, von kurz ?berm Brummton bis hin zum choralen "Aah", kontrastieren mit akkordeonartigen Loops. PHOBOS setzen hingegen auf sehr statische, klare Fl?chensounds, die mit gelegentelichen Donnerschl?gen akzentuiert werden - etwas, was ich auch von FALSE MIRROR erwartet h?tte, doch die zeigen sich fast schon melodi?s. "Invisible Fear" erscheint etwas vertr?umt und insgesamt recht synthetisch.
Dark Ambient zu beschreiben, ist eine ?u?erst schwierige Aufgabe und es ist fast unm?glich, den Projekten ernsthaft gerecht zu werden. Mit Sicherheit l?sst sich jedoch sagen, dass hier eine Anzahl interessanter K?nstler vertreten sind, die das Genre und verschiedene Spielarten vertreten. Sehr angenehm finde ich, dass auch bei den unbekannten Vertretern keine Ausf?lle dabei sind und so bin ich schon gespannt auf Teil drei.
Eine technische Anmerkung noch: Ich habe keine Ahnung, ob nur ich das so empfinde weil ich schlechte Kopfh?rer besitze, aber die Platte h?rt man besser ?ber die Anlage, sonst stimmt der Sound irgendwie nicht. Bei den B?ssen gibt meine Technik auf.

The Dark Ambient Radio is, as the name tells us, committed to a certain genre of electronic music.
This is not boring, as some could say, but pretty varied. This was proofed by the producer of the DAR Vol. 1, the Vol. 2 is similar interesting. They even improved in a visual way, the artwork of the old one was a point of negative critique for the most.
THOLEN starts the album with very dark, slow flowing sounds, which are pretty scaring. Sometimes it is like hearing a monster under the watersurface, but the sunny parts ease this impression. The fade to INNER SHRINE LABORATORY is almost not recognized, similar in the beginnning, but a bit slower. The bell drones and a constant movement can be heard. It remains in memory mainly because of the female choirs at the end.
ARKHITEKTUR NOIR'S work sounds very occult, the starting sequence sounds like played on horns - maybe known from Lord Of The Rings. Then choir drones and strange sounds from animals can be heard.
THERRADAEMON show themselves very dark and disturbing either, with various divergent drones - also here it remembers me of water, the ghostly voices do their part to the gloomy athmosphere. The ASPECTEE song reveals itself more noisy and confused in the beginning, but is being dominated from light drones after. Various atmospheric additions and much reverb assure a deep impression.
The martial contribution of Phelios with his wonderful ritual drums is my favorite on the Compilation. Probably because "Cloud Sector" offers almost a real song structure. After that CREPUSCULAR shows itself more "animalistic". Very dark drones, which slowly get louder follow the crickets chirring. Here you can hear some strange scraping and smacking. The atmosphere is more of static nature.
NAGUAL ART contribute a more understated song, with a bright whistling drone, combined with a dark atmosphere and weird melancholic melody fragments. TROUM present themselves with very reduced sound, which party is extremely quiet. The dark drones, ranging from humming till the choral "Aah", contrast with accordeon-like loops.
On the other hand PHOBOS focus on static and clear fieldy sounds which are accentuated by occasional thunderclaps - something which i also expected from FALSE MIRROR, but they appear almost melodic. "Invisible Fear" comes a bit dreamy and all in all pretty synthetic.
To describe Dark Ambient, is a pretty hard thing and it's almost impossible, to cope with the projects here. But for sure i can say that here are some interesting artists, which represent the genre and different styles. Very nice is that also among the more unknown projects there are no failures and i'm very curious towards the third part.
One technical remark: i don't know if it's only for me because i have bad headphones, but maybe it's better to listen this compilation without headphones...the sound would be a little wrong. My technology gives up with this kind of bass.
