Yeah, the truth is that most of the methods to prevent ripping annoys listeners much more than rippers....
I think that one of the ways (especially considering the content of the radio) is to make tracks crossfading for say 10 seconds one into another... Then rippers will not be able to do what Angel tells about and I think that it will sound no less cool...

Very good idea Alex. Just launch the ''automix'' function and voil?!
problem solved in a very elegant way. Sounds very good.

I doubt the russian mp3 mafia gets their rips from radio streams. Would be too much effort to reassemble albums from single tracks. But I always wondered how they got this vast amount of albums covered. I doubt they buy. They must have agents all over the world to collect promos... But maybe they buy the CDs, rip them, and shrink-wrap them again, and sell them as new. There are suspicious Amazon sellers like inandoutrecords or Zoverstocks who are active on a global scale and offer millions of titles. But enough conspiration theory...
I already had a small crossover. A crossfade of 10 seconds is actually the maximum SAM allows. The effective, audible crossfade time will be much shorter. These are the current settings:

Listen for a while and tell me what you think.

I like the idea to crossfade tracks - but from a listeners point of view. A lot of tracks do not fit together well or have a very hard cut at the end. The crossfade smooths everything a little bit. Nice!
On topic: Everyone can download whatever he or she likes from the internet. I doubt that this radio station makes a difference to the overall piracy problem. |

I agree the crossfade of tracks is a good idea - nice for smoothing everything out to a certain extent.
However when it comes to piracy issues there are only a handful of steps that can be taken which will have the slightest effect, there is always a way around anything when it comes to piracy and while their is a market for cheap bootleg CD's and the like, then the rippers will always find that way.
