Ever tried to google for 'Download'? You will get over 1 billion hits! Surely, this doesn't reflect this projects presence on the internet. You will not even get a wiki entry, if you don't type 'Downoad (band)'. Just one of the curiosities of this project.
It's alway the last resort to take a look at discogs.com, if you don't find anything about a project, label or artist elsewhere quick.
Download was founded by Cevin Key, Dwayn R. Goettel (both Skinny Puppy), Mark Spybey (Dead Voices on Air), and Phil Western from which only Key and Western remained in the project as constant members, but many artists joined temporarily like Genesis P. Orridge, who contributed great vocals on the album 'The Eyes of Stanley Pain.
For me, Download began as a small comfort for the split of Skinny Puppy after Goettels H-overdose death, but after lots of repetitive playing of the first album 'Furnace', it gained a status in my cd collection that is equally, if not more importatant, than Skinny Puppy, as it opened my mind and ears to a more experimental kind of music in the nineties.
'Must have' albums, in my opinion, are Furnace, The Eyes of Stanley Pain, and III. Everything else (in particular Effector & Microscopic) is dispensable, if you don't really start to get into it, although only two tracks on this stream (Attalal & Base Metal) come frome those albums, the others can be found on the soundtrack to Charlie's Family.
